Using the iPhone 16's cameras well
The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max have three rear cameras; the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus have two. In a dual recording, one rear camera runs alongside the front camera. Zoom in the app to choose how wide the rear view is.
Use the Action button or Camera Control for whatever you like in the Camera app, but for dual recording the easier trigger is your voice: say "Hey Lookout" and it starts.
Three iPhone 16 setups
Walk and talk: hold the phone at chest height with the back camera ahead of you and the front camera on your face. Walk slowly.
Desk tutorial: lean the phone against something so the back camera looks down at your hands and the front camera sees you. Good for cooking, crafts and repairs.
Match day: mount the phone at the net post and let the two cameras cover both ends of the court. Start and stop from your Apple Watch.
Battery and heat on iPhone 16
Two cameras use more power than one. For long sessions, start with a full battery or plug into a power bank, keep the phone out of direct sun, and take it out of a thick case. If the phone gets hot, iOS may slow down or stop recording to protect itself; shorter segments avoid that.
What about Dual Capture on iPhone 17?
The iPhone 17 lineup has Dual Capture built into the Camera app. If you are on an iPhone 16, you do not need to upgrade for this. Read more in dual capture on iPhone 16.
