Privacy stance. Whether analysis happens on the device or on someone else’s servers. Heart-rate data is health data, and an account is a decision.

Apple Health: reads HealthKit history passively. Standout: overlays your calendar on the trace. Best for: knowing what a reading was caused by.

3. Athlytic — recovery and strain
Apple Health: reads Apple Watch data. Standout: daily recovery and strain scores. Best for: training load.
Athlytic (MyndArc, LLC) turns Apple Watch data into recovery and strain scoring in the style of a dedicated fitness wearable, without needing one. 4.8 stars from nearly 11,000 ratings, free with a subscription, iOS 17 or later.
Limitations: it is built around training, so if you are not exercising regularly the scores have little to work with. It is Apple Watch dependent in practice, and makes no mention of calendar or meeting context.
4. Elite HRV — the free HRV option
Apple Health: integration stated explicitly, alongside Training Peaks, Strava and others. Standout: serious HRV without a subscription. Best for: HRV tracking on a budget.
Elite HRV is free, carries 4.68 stars from nearly 6,900 ratings, and runs on iOS 13 or later — the widest device support here by some distance. It exports to a long list of training platforms, which matters if heart-rate data is one input among several.
Limitations: it is squarely an HRV tool, so it assumes you want to learn what the numbers mean. No Apple Watch app, and no calendar context.
5. HRV4Training — camera-based, paid once
Apple Health: not mentioned in its App Store listing. Standout: $9.99 once, no subscription. Best for: people who want validated camera measurement and refuse subscriptions.
HRV4Training (A.S.M.A. B.V.) takes measurements with the phone camera rather than reading a wearable's history, and is the only app here with a one-off price rather than a subscription.
Limitations, and they matter for this list: its listing does not mention Apple Health at all, so if passive HealthKit reading is what you want, verify that on the listing before buying. Measurement is active — you take a reading, it does not accumulate in the background. It has the lowest rating here at 3.6 from 288, and there is no Apple Watch app. We have included it because it is frequently recommended in this category; on the specific question of Apple Health depth, it is the weakest fit.

Do these apps sync with Apple Health automatically?
Most read from Apple Health in the background once you grant permission, so there is nothing to sync manually.
