What a heart rate lock screen widget can show
iOS widgets are snapshots that refresh periodically, not live monitors. A Lock Screen heart rate widget can show a recent figure, such as today's average, updated through the day. For a live reading, your Apple Watch's Heart Rate app is the right tool.
How to add the 70 BPM widget
- Install 70 BPM and allow it to read heart rate from Apple Health.
- Lock your iPhone, then touch and hold the Lock Screen.
- Tap Customise, then choose the Lock Screen.
- Tap the widget area below the clock.
- Find 70 BPM in the list and add its widget.
- Tap Done.
The widget shows today's average heart rate. 70 BPM also has a Home Screen widget.
Why "today's average" is useful
A single reading jumps around with every flight of stairs. Today's average moves slowly, so it tells you something about the day as a whole: a higher-than-usual average on a quiet day may mean a cold coming on, poor sleep or a stressful stretch. When you want details, open the app and see heart rate against your calendar.
If the widget shows no data
- Check 70 BPM has Health access: Settings › Privacy & Security › Health › 70 BPM.
- Make sure your watch has synced today's readings to your iPhone.
- Widgets refresh on a schedule iOS controls; give it a little time.
