How subscriptions hide in a listing
The "Get" button only means the download is free. Scroll down the App Store listing to In-App Purchases. If you see items such as "Premium Weekly" or "Pro Yearly", the app runs on a subscription, whatever the headline says. Reviews that mention "paywall" or "trial" are another clue.
Free heart rate options, no subscription
| App | What it does | Subscription |
|---|---|---|
| Apple Health | All-day heart rate, resting and walking averages | None, built in |
| Heart Rate app on Apple Watch | Current reading and recent history on your wrist | None, built in |
| 70 BPM | All-day heart rate next to your calendar events, widgets | None at the time of writing |
What paid apps add
Subscriptions usually pay for HRV scores, coaching, AI summaries or cloud dashboards. If you want those, paying can be fair. If you just want to see your heart rate and understand your day, the free options above cover it.
Why 70 BPM has no subscription
70 BPM runs entirely on your iPhone. There is no server to pay for, no account and no cloud dashboard, so there is nothing that needs a monthly fee to keep running. Check the App Store listing for current details.
